Veteran reporter Sam Donaldson will speak about his long career in journalism during the lunch hour on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Donaldson, a native of New Mexico who was raised on a farm in Dona Ana County, was a news reporter based in Washington from February 1961 to October 2013, and was employed by ABC News from 1967 to 2013. He has covered every presidential election beginning in 1964, with the campaign of Barry Goldwater.

Donaldson covered the war in Vietnam and the First Gulf War, was ABC’s Watergate Correspondent, and was twice the chief White House correspondent covering presidents Carter, Reagan and Clinton. He co-anchored the ABC magazine program Prime Time Live with Diane Sawyer, co-anchored the Sunday program This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts and was the founding anchor of Politics Live, the first regularly scheduled Monday through Friday news program in the United States on the Internet.

Students and panelists must register for Lobocamp to attend Donaldson’s speech. See the complete schedule here.

#lobocamp ends with panels on design, photography, reporting

Day two of the bootcamp was just as busy and fun for students who learned how to edit photos, design pages, cover the crime beat and automate their beat to never miss a tip. Students left feeling energized and ready to try some new techniques at the Lobo and in class this semester.
Students Connor Coleman and Sergio Jimenez used InDesign to practice laying out a newspaper page on deadline during Sunday’s panel on design.
